    Concrete is the hardest but also the most transformative part of the process. I love how you allow the kids to pitch in their own way to make them feel part of the process. It’s also teaching them. Please teach your daughter as much as your boys on building, repairing, construction techniques. I wish my carpenter father who could do it all, including automotive, would have taught me.

    Cool to see the whole family pitching in. A vibrator would have gone a long way toward leveling and strengthening the pour, eliminating a ton of shovel work. May next time, when you pour the slab to strengthen those edges and form a complete bond to the footings. Check it out online, a vibrator will flow out and level a "pile" of concrete almost instantly, helping it to flow into all nooks and crannies. Use it sparingly; in to the bottom and out again without hesitation, then move over a foot or so and do it again! They rent for cheap, usually! Thx for sharing!

    You should put that ground wire inside a PVC pipe if it's touching that steal it will make electrolysis and eventually the steel will eat the copper in half please take the copper wire away from the rebar

    • @aboulderlifeoffgrid
      @aboulderlifeoffgrid 2 дні тому

      You are supposed to tie the ground to the rebar and have it encased in concrete. Otherwise, it would not pass inspection, and our electrical system would not be properly grounded. Thanks for watching.

    • @rixtrix11
      @rixtrix11 2 дні тому

      @donstevenson8483, you are wrong! How will it provide ground if it's encased in plastic???!!! Check the internet for a UFER ground and how it actually works! Did you not notice the brass clamp added between the rebar and the ground wire? Wouldn't be Code legal if it wasn't a good thing.

  • @donstevenson8483

    You should used fiberglass rebar instead of Steel fiberglass is cheaper and it's stronger❤

    • @rixtrix11
      @rixtrix11 2 дні тому

      All the pre-formed fiberglass bends make up for the cheaper price of straight lengths, but are very hard to find

  • @rixtrix11
    @rixtrix11 2 дні тому

    Rebar may all.look the same, but it comes in different grades, 20, 40, 60... i.e.strength (price) and resulting stiffness; also, weldable and unweldable. You need to make sure you have the correct product for your projects.

    With the concert truck delivery you need to tell them exact what time you want each truck. Because you are on your own, then a minimum of 30mins between trucks. And because you had to wheel barrow into the center then your 2nd truck should have been 45mins. You are paying them for a service not the other way around. I assume that you are not going to use a pump truck to pour your slab. So direct pour or fifty million wheel barrows - answer to this is following. With your slab to come, set height pegs/rods throughout the slab, from all edges just shorter than you screed board in each direction and then to each height peg/rod until you have the slab completely covered. This way you will know that your slab height is very close to the finished height first time you screed and every time thereafter - pull the pegs/rods as you go once the height is correct. Forget the million wheel barrows - leave one section of your slab boarder temporarily out so the concrete truck/s can reverse into the center of your pad and do direct pour from one end to the other going out. Looking at your setup, it would be logical to reverse drive the truck/s in over the the opposite side of the footing to the cellar near your internal rectangle footer that you just poured. Leave the reo/bar flat on the ground and pick them up as the truck drives forward and out. I would break your slab into thirds, pour the middle third section with the truck/s driving inside, then the other 2 thirds from each side. Just make sure that the concrete truck can shoot the mud from your boxed slab edges to the concrete slab that you have just screeded level - 4 to 5 yards maximum. This distance will determine what width your center third pour will be. Well done! Keep up the great work, the end result will most certainly be worth it!

    The difference in the rebar could be the scrap yard rebar could have been grade 60, the rebar you picked up from HD is only grade 40. Normally grade 60 has an additional line in addition to the mill run at the label

    You don't see a perfect yardage calculation too often-even with the pros. Smart thinking on the footer insulation. How much are they getting per yard for concrete now in your area? Turned out great. Slab next.

    I have noticed a common theme in the comments, and that is how so many people emphasize their attraction to the family values that your family demonstrates. Sadly, that seems to be disappearing in our country. Thank you for reminding us of the important things in life. Jacob, you are blessed with a wife with the sweetest, caring, able, and willing attitude😢. I recognize that, because I have been similarity blessed. God Bless.
